"This project, developed in the BIM (Building Information Management) Area of WSP Chile, involved the research and development of BIM dissemination and training methodologies. It was driven by the high degree of unfamiliarity with the BIM methodology among individuals working in various engineering specialties at WSP Chile. We utilized the Design Thinking method to understand the pain points of the users and generate solutions centered around them."
Mission of BIM area.
"We proposed preliminary objectives to fulfill the mission we set for ourselves as a department, and these ideas were the most discussed in the initial internal work sessions."
"We employed the 'Design Thinking' methodology, which is grounded in its initial stages in empathizing with users to understand real needs and develop working hypotheses. Our work is based on User Experience (UX), placing users at the center of our research."
A very important tool for understanding users and consolidating teams is the empathy map. It involves working with a canvas that contains various areas of the behavior of a fictional user. The team speculates on how the user feels regarding the BIM methodology and describes these feelings, capturing them in phrases. We conducted this with 6 people from the department, and it took 20 minutes. We used the Miro platform. To communicate the results, we created a word cloud with key words extracted from the phrases. This allowed us to identify the feelings expressed by users and understand how they feel.
"From the analysis we have conducted using the 'personas' and 'Empathy Map' tools, we have arrived at significant findings regarding the situations and feelings of users regarding BIM at WSP."
"To continue with the process, we began organizing interactive dynamics with the BIM team. We conducted a brainstorming session focused on gathering ideas from the team to develop solutions that facilitate the dissemination of BIM within WSP Chile. This brainstorming lasted for 20 minutes and involved 6 participants. The following rules were considered. From the session, around 50 ideas emerged, which were categorized and grouped into the following categories."
"We conducted an internal card sorting, which we called 'most common BIM questions,' focused on defining content that should be included in the platforms and initiatives we will design for BIM implementation and dissemination. In 10 minutes and with 6 participants, we managed to collect 65 questions. We used Miro, a collaborative web tool that allows simultaneous work on a canvas."
